I remember enjoying Caen quite a bit. We had been on the road for quite a while before arriving in Caen, and we pulled into town in the late afternoon. We did our usual quick hunt for a hotel room, and I remember walking around the old town region of Caen quite a bit before finding a hotel. The old town isn't as well-preserved or cohesive as some of the other towns we saw, but the mildly rolling hilly terrain and the diverse architecture gave Caen a great deal of charm. |

The most prominent feature in the center of the town is an old fort-like structure known as the Chateau de Caen. Within its tall solid ramparts are living quarters, chapels, government offices, museums, and more. The town also features two beautiful Abbeys: the Abbaye aux Hommes (men's church) and the Abbaye aux Dames (nuns' church). |

We were in Caen only briefly, but we did manage to find an internet cafe. It had been the first time for us to log on in several days. Of course I've preserved a shot of Megan at the helm. Later on, we wandered about looking for a good place to settle in for some food and ale. There are many restaurants, but they tended to close fairly early, and they weren't very busy anyway. So we drifted off the tourist path and ate at a typical urban restaurant for some easy inexpensive fare. All in all, Caen is a fun town to visit, not very crowded, fun stuff to do. |
